Foreground Plants

Foreground aquarium plants, also known as carpet plants, are low-growing species planted at the front of the tank to form a dense green carpet across the substrate.

They stay under 9cm tall, so they never block the view of taller plants behind them. This collection includes proven aquascaping favourites like Monte Carlo, Hemianthus Callitrichoides (HC), and hairgrass, available as potted plants or invitro cups for faster, cleaner establishment.

Carpet Plants

Most carpet plants need higher light levels than background or midground species, and many benefit from CO2 injection to grow densely rather than leggy.

Plant small portions spaced a few centimetres apart rather than one large clump, this gives the carpet room to spread evenly across the substrate. Regular trimming keeps growth low and encourages the plant to spread sideways instead of upward.

Invitro cups are a good option if you want to avoid pest algae or snails that can sometimes come with potted plants.

Not always, but most carpet plants grow denser and faster with CO2 injection. Species like hairgrass can manage without it, but Monte Carlo and HC do best with it.

Split the plant into small clumps and space them a few centimetres apart across the substrate, rather than planting one dense clump.
