We've been keeping tropical fish for close to 40 years. This page brings together the fish we specialise in, how we look after them before they go on sale, and where to check what's actually in stock today.
We house the largest selection of tropical fish in the Burton-on-Trent area, across over 90 individually filtered aquariums. Every tank runs on its own system, so we can isolate health issues, prevent cross-contamination between varieties, and tailor the water, softening it or adjusting pH, to suit whatever we're keeping in that tank.
Our collection covers a wide range of community fish alongside some more unusual species. We're known for our Betta work, we typically hold between 20 and 40 males in stock, hand-picked from breeders in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. We also keep an extensive range of nano fish and a good selection of shrimp, much of it bred here rather than bought in. More on our male Betta selection on its own page.
We stick to the species we know best, so we don't typically stock larger fish like Malawi cichlids or Oscars.
That keeps us able to give proper, informed advice on the community and nano fish we do carry.
Every fish goes into quarantine before it's offered for sale, a minimum of four days and usually a week, made easier by keeping each tank on its own individually filtered system. We worm fish as required on arrival, and health is checked twice a day: we're looking for early signs of disease, changes in behaviour or feeding, and anything else our experience has taught us to watch for. If something's not right, that fish comes off sale until it's sorted.
Feeding is tailored to the individual fish rather than one routine for everything. Most are fed daily, some more than once a day, and we mix dry, frozen and fresh foods through the week rather than sticking to just one, variety matters as much as quantity.
For rarer or sought-after fish, we take reservations with a deposit, so get in touch if there's something specific you're after.
