Choosing aquarium plants by placement is the easiest way to build a natural-looking aquascape. Every planted tank is built in layers: low carpeting plants at the front, taller structural plants in the middle, tall backdrop plants at the back, and some plants that attach to rock or wood rather than root in the substrate at all. Getting this right gives your tank depth and makes sure every plant is visible rather than hidden behind something taller.
Foreground plants stay low, usually under 3 inches, and are planted at the front of the tank to form a carpet across the substrate. They're the first thing you see and set the base of the layout. [Shop Foreground Plants]
