Aquarium Plastic & Silk Plants

Plastic & Silk aquarium plants are a practical way to add greenery and cover to a tank without any of the upkeep, as they need no light, no fertiliser and no trimming. They suit tanks where live plants struggle, such as setups with larger or more boisterous fish, and they give shy fish somewhere to hide and rest.

Our range includes realistic AD plants like glosso, hairgrass, hydrilla and anubias nana, plus Betta Choice lilies and lotus flowers that sit at the surface. These are ideal for bettas, who like to rest just below the waterline.

Need a hand?

A mix of plastic and live plants often works best, with plastic pieces filling the gaps where live plants struggle and live plants handling the work of keeping the water healthy. Whichever you choose, give new plastic plants a good rinse in tap water before they go into the tank, and wipe them down occasionally during water changes, as algae will settle on them just as it does on any other surface. If you’re not sure what would suit your tank, pop in or give us a call and we’ll help you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aquarium plastic plants made for fish tanks are safe, but check there are no sharp edges, as these can tear the fins of delicate fish like bettas. If you’re unsure, run your fingers over the leaves, or a piece of silk or soft plastic is always a gentler option.

No, unlike live plants they don’t absorb nitrates or compete with algae for nutrients. They give fish cover and decoration, but you’ll still need regular water changes and good filtration.

Take them out during a water change and rinse them under warm tap water, using a soft brush to remove any algae. Avoid soap or household cleaners, as residue can harm your fish.

Yes, many keepers do. Plastic plants can fill spaces where light is poor or where fish keep uprooting live plants, while live plants like anubias or java fern help keep the water healthier.

Bettas have long, delicate fins, so soft leaves and surface pieces like lilies and lotus flowers are best. They enjoy resting just under the surface, and these give them a place to do it.
