Pogostemon helferi, also known as Downoi or Little Star, is a foreground plant with crinkled, star-shaped leaves that grow in low, tight rosettes. It gives the foreground a wilder, more textured look than a typical carpet, and works especially well tucked around stones in Iwagumi layouts or as a step between carpet and midground plants. This is a Tropica potted plant, so you get a larger, more established clump than you would from an invitro cup.
For compact growth, give it medium to high light and CO2 injection. Without CO2 the rosettes tend to stretch and loosen. Potted plants are usually grown above water at the nursery, so it may go through a short melting phase after planting while it adjusts, but it will push out new underwater growth once it settles.
To plant, take it out of the pot, gently remove the rock wool from around the roots, and split it into smaller portions if you want to spread it along the foreground. If you're planting a shrimp tank and want plants that are guaranteed pest and snail free, we also stock Pogostemon helferi as a Tropica 1-2-Grow invitro cup.
