Cryptocoryne amicorum – Potted Aquarium Plant

Cryptocoryne amicorum is a rare crypt species native to Kalimantan, Borneo, not often seen in the hobby. It has medium-sized, pleasantly wavy-edged leaves that give it more texture than flatter-leaved crypts, reaching around 15-25cm in height, making it well suited to midground planting.

Like other Cryptocoryne species, it does best under low to moderate light and doesn't need CO2 injection, though it will grow a little faster with it. It's adaptable to a wide range of water parameters, but stability matters more than hitting exact numbers, as sudden changes in hardness, pH, or temperature can trigger "crypt melt", where the plant loses its leaves before regrowing once settled. Aim for a temperature of 22-28°C and a pH of around 6.0-7.5.

Potted plants can often be divided into two or three smaller plants to spread around your aquascape. Before planting, remove from the pot, rinse off the substrate, and trim back any damaged or overly long roots.
