Bucephalandra sordidula 'Blue' – Potted Tropica

Bucephalandra sordidula 'Blue' is a sought-after Bucephalandra with deep green leaves and a shimmering blue sheen that shifts with the lighting. Native to the riverbanks of Borneo, it adds a rare touch of colour and texture to natural, jungle-style aquascapes.

It is slow growing and stays compact, reaching around 5 to 10 cm after two months in the tank, so it holds its shape with minimal trimming. It is easy and hardy, and does well in low to moderate light, although brighter lighting brings out more colour. It has a low CO2 demand and doesn't need CO2 injection, so it suits low-tech setups, nano tanks and shrimp tanks as well as high-tech scapes. It looks best in the midground or foreground, where the colour and texture can be admired up close.

Supplied as a Tropica potted plant, grown in a small pot with rockwool around the roots. Take it out of the pot and gently remove the rockwool before use. Like all Bucephalandra, it should be attached to rock or wood, using aquarium-safe glue or thread, rather than planted in the substrate. Burying the rhizome can cause it to rot. It establishes slowly and develops its best colouration once settled.
