Microsorum pteropus 'Trident' is a striking Java Fern cultivar named for its deeply divided, finger-like leaf tips, which branch out to give each frond a distinctive, trident-shaped silhouette. This more textured, sculptural form sets it apart from the standard Java Fern while sharing the same hardy, low-maintenance nature that's made the species so popular. Supplied as a well-rooted Tropica pot, it's ready to attach to hardscape and start settling in straight away.
As with all Java Ferns, 'Trident' is an epiphyte and should never be planted in the substrate: the rhizome needs to stay above the surface, so tie or glue it to driftwood or rock, where roots will slowly take hold over the following weeks. Growth is slow, and low to moderate light suits it best; strong lighting can encourage algae to build up on its leaves. It's also generally left alone by herbivorous fish, making it a reliable choice for community and planted tanks alike.
