Hygrophila corymbosa 'Stricta', often known as the Temple Plant, is a bold, upright stem plant grown for its narrow, pointed leaves and sturdy, columnar growth habit. Under moderate to strong light, the foliage takes on warm reddish-brown tones that contrast well against greener planting, while lower light keeps it a more understated olive green. Supplied as a well-rooted Tropica pot, it's ready to plant straight away.
It's a fast, easy grower that adapts readily to a wide range of water conditions, making it a reliable choice for background planting in tanks of all levels of experience. Given good light and a nutrient-rich substrate it will put on height quickly, so regular trimming keeps it bushy rather than leggy and stops it shading out plants in front. Cut stems root easily too, making it simple to propagate more plants or fill out a background from cuttings.
Hardy and undemanding, it brings structure and colour to the back of the tank with very little fuss, and copes well even without CO2, though it will reward the extra input with denser, more compact growth.
