Seachem Purigen is a premium synthetic filtration resin that removes soluble and insoluble organic waste from water far more effectively than standard filter media, controlling ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate at the source rather than just polishing water clarity.
Unlike simple carbon or ion-exchange resins, Purigen is a macro-porous polymer with both spherical and macroreticular structure, giving it far greater surface area and an especially strong affinity for nitrogenous organic waste, the primary source of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in an aquarium. It has minimal impact on trace elements and significantly raises redox potential, while also polishing the water to exceptional clarity.
Purigen is suitable for both freshwater and marine aquariums. Use it inside a fine-mesh filter bag (180 micron or less) positioned for maximum water flow, such as in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or a high-flow area of a trickle filter. Each 250ml treats up to 1,000 litres for up to six months.
As Purigen exhausts, it gradually changes colour from pale blonde to dark brown or black, showing you exactly when it needs replacing or regenerating. It can be regenerated with a bleach solution rather than thrown away, giving it a long working life.
Format: Seachem Purigen, 250ml organic filtration resin, treats up to 1,000 litres, for use in a fine-mesh filter bag.
