Microsorum Pteropus potted Aqua Fleur

Microsorum pteropus, better known as Java Fern, is one of the most reliable plants in the hobby, with broad, leathery, dark green fronds that give a lush, jungle-like look wherever it's placed. Its tolerance of a wide range of water conditions and low care needs make it a firm favourite for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. Supplied as a well-rooted Aqua Fleur pot, it's ready to attach to hardscape and start settling in straight away.

As an epiphyte, Java Fern should never be planted in the substrate: the rhizome needs to stay above the surface, so tie or glue it to driftwood or rock, where roots will slowly take hold over the following weeks. Growth is slow, and low to moderate light suits it best, as strong lighting can encourage algae to build up on the leaves. It's also one of the few plants most algae-eating and herbivorous fish tend to leave alone.
