Catappa Leaves (Indian Almond Leaves)

Enhance your aquarium naturally with Catappa Leaves, also known as Indian Almond Leaves. These large, dried leaves are highly valued in freshwater aquariums for their natural tannins, gentle antibacterial properties, and ability to create an authentic blackwater-style environment. As a completely natural product, each leaf varies in sise, shape, and colour.

Catappa Leaves are ideal for shrimp, bettas, and soft-water fish species, helping to replicate the leaf-litter habitats many aquatic animals prefer. As the leaves break down, they offer natural grazing surfaces and shelter, making them a versatile and beneficial addition to any aquarium.

Care Instructions

  • Rinse and boil for 10–15 minutes before adding to the aquarium to ensure they sink and to remove surface impurities

  • Add directly to the aquarium and replace once fully decomposed

  • Remove excess decaying material if required

  • Monitor water parameters regularly, as botanicals can alter water chemistry

  • Adjust the number of leaves used depending on the desired tannin level
