Catappa bark pack Natural Botanical

Catappa bark comes from the Indian almond tree (Terminalia catappa), the same tree as catappa leaves. It is a long-lasting natural botanical that releases tannins and humic substances, which lightly tint the water and help create a soft, blackwater-style environment. It suits betta, shrimp and soft-water community tanks, as well as blackwater and biotope setups.

Bark lasts much longer than leaves, which can break down within a couple of weeks in a busy shrimp tank. Reviewers also find it releases more tannin than leaves, so add it gradually at first to avoid sudden changes in your water. The rough surface grows biofilm for shrimp and fry to graze on, and the pieces create natural hiding spots.

Before adding to your aquarium, rinse well and boil for several minutes so the bark sinks rather than floats, and to release any excess tannins.

As a natural product, size and appearance may vary. Adding botanicals to your aquarium can affect water parameters and release tannins into the water, so we recommend regular water testing when using botanicals.

Format: Catappa bark pack, natural aquarium botanical, minimum 5 pieces per pack.
