Blueberry Snail (Papua Viviparus)

The Blueberry Snail (Viviparus sp.) has a shell that ranges from deep blue to violet, and it's one of the more unusual snails we stock. It's peaceful, spends its time grazing surfaces for biofilm, algae and leftover food, and suits planted tanks well.

Blueberry Snails are livebearers and breed slowly, so you get a useful clean-up crew without the population explosions you can get with pond or ramshorn snails.

Keeping Blueberry Snails

They do best in a stable, mature aquarium with good water quality. Wood and botanicals give them extra surfaces to graze, and harder water with some calcium helps keep their shells in good condition. Keep them with peaceful tankmates and avoid snail-eating fish such as loaches and puffers, as well as assassin snails. If there isn't much algae in the tank, add sinking wafers or blanched vegetables to their diet.

This is a live animal, so size, colour and shell pattern will vary.
