Sea Mango pods Natural Botanicals

Sea mango pods are the dried, fibrous fruit husks of the sea mango tree (Cerbera), a coastal tree found across Africa, Asia and Australasia. Each pod is around 8 cm long, supplied in a pack of a minimum of 2 pods. They are a natural botanical for shrimp tanks, nano aquariums and blackwater or biotope setups, and they give shrimp, fry, snails and small fish a place to shelter.

The fibrous, textured surface is a good growth medium for biofilm and diatoms, which shrimp and snails graze on throughout the day. As the pods slowly break down they may release a little tannin and lightly tint the water.

The pods are very buoyant and trap air when dry, so they float at first. Before adding to your aquarium, rinse well, then boil for around an hour to waterlog them. Leaving them to soak in cold water overnight afterwards helps them sink, and you can weight them down until they do.

Sea mango is a poisonous plant. These pods are for aquarium use only, and are not for eating. Keep them away from children and pets, and wash your hands after handling.

As a natural product, size and appearance may vary. Adding botanicals to your aquarium can affect water parameters and release tannins into the water, so we recommend regular water testing when using botanicals.
