Casuarina cones Natural Botanicals

Casuarina cones are the small, rounded, textured seed cones of the Casuarina tree (Casuarina equisetifolia). They are a natural botanical for shrimp tanks, nano aquariums and blackwater or biotope setups, where they look natural scattered across the substrate with leaf litter.

The textured surface grows biofilm, giving shrimp and fry a place to graze throughout the day, and the cones create small hiding spots. They may release a little tannin and lightly tint the water as they break down, though the effect is gentle compared with larger botanicals such as bark.

Before adding to your aquarium, rinse well and boil for several minutes so the cones sink rather than float, and to release any excess tannins.

As a natural product, size and appearance may vary. Adding botanicals to your aquarium can affect water parameters and release tannins into the water, so we recommend regular water testing when using botanicals.

Format: Casuarina cone, natural aquarium botanical, sold individually.
