Additionally, the wood is soft enough to supplement the diet of rasping fishes, such as Plecostomus. One of the key benefits of Cholla wood is its ability to support biofilm growth, which shrimp will graze on, providing them with a constant food source. However, like many aquatic woods, Cholla often floats initially. Boiling the branches in water can help them become waterlogged more quickly, allowing them to sink.
